The Season of Christmas-DAY 1

So for the month of December I am going to try and post a little something each day until christmas, whether it be a christmas craft or a baked item or a decoration or a verse....I'm going to try and post something :-)

I have some exciting things in mind.....so stay tuned!

For now I'll leave you with some of my favorite scripture leading up to the birth of Jesus! That's what christmas is all about anyway!

Luke 1:30-33
THen the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. I finally finished painting our kitchen table to match the mail organizer that I just painted:-)

Let me tell you, it was time-consuming! I thought I would never be done coating it with paint! It wasn't that hard, but because I painted it in red, it required many, many coats!



Two painting projects is about my limit, I'm ready to move on to other things.......like christmas!!! :-)

With the primer on(I won't bore you with the details, like I did with my last project, pretty much did the same thing, except it required more coats of paint)




The whole finished room, with both completed projects, I need to put some other kind of picture on the left side of the wall, above the mail organizer.....any suggestions?

And what makes it even more of a homey kitchen table, are the beautiful roses my sweet hubby surprised me with tonight! Have I said how blessed I am to have the sweetest, bestest(yes, I know that's not a word!) husband in the whole world!

Desk Organizer Painting Project!

SO as promised here is the latest project! My kitchen is a red and black theme(if you couldn't tell from the last apron project I posted)...and so I decided to stick with that color in my dining room too! I painted this mail/desk organizer thingthatIdon'treallyknowwhatitis. I liked this color red so much that who knows what else will end up this color in my house :-) Next up is painting the kitchen table!


1-First I sanded to rough it up.



2-Next I primed it, 2 coats, with a primer specifitely for bright colors. It did a great job!

3- Of course then I painted it with a ruby red color. I don't have pictures of me painting, but I did 2 coats of that as well.

4-Next I mod-podged the inside with scrapbooking paper. This was a first for me, but it actually wasn't too hard. The most time-consuming part was measuring to fit the paper inside. I did use an online tutorial that showed me the best way to mod podge it. I really like how it turned out!

5-With the mod podging done, all I did to finish the project was sand the edges down to give it a roughed up look(and sanded whatever I thought looked good)

6- And the last step was put everything back in it! Oh and you can see in the last 2 pictures, I also mod podged a little wooden organizer that I had! It was brown before and I thought, why not make it match everything else? :-) Yes, I got a little mod podge happy!

Learning to sew

I decided the other week that I would like to learn to sew. Now I must tell you, that when I was in high-school, my mom tried to teach me to sew. I say tried, because I had no interest in it! I thought it was boring and I couldn't sit still that long, let alone try and read the gibberish that was the directions :) My poor mom tried and I'm sure she was a good teacher, but I was interested in other things.

Well after growing up some and seeing all the beautiful things that one can make(if they know the art of sewing ;-), I decided it was time to try again! And I asked my oh-so patient, loving mom if she would re-teach me! And she gladly said yes!!

After an idea that my friend gave me, I decided to try sewing an apron. I've been wanting one to match my kitchen, but hadn't found the one. So why not create one myself, even better because I get to pick the fabric and custom make it!

I eventually found a step by step pattern(because I'm very visual, I need actual pictures to figure out the directions) online and I got right to work! I found out that I'm not half bad at sewing(just don't look too closely:-) and I, "gasp" actually enjoy it! I have to give all the credit to my mom, who is an awesome teacher! Without her, I would still be trying to figure it out! Thanks mom!

crafts and baking

So I thought it would be fun to start a craft and baking blog:-) These are some of my favorite hobbies these days and I would like to keep track of what I make. I probably won't post things all the time, but when I create something fun or bake a really good recipe, I'll have a place to show you all :-)

I'll still keep my regular blog, but will probably post on this one more, especially since winter is coming soon and I have some projects up my sleeve ;)
